Well, Sammy appears to have contracted warts. My vet assured me that warts are very common in dogs and they usually do disappear by themselves and suggested no further treatement.

I was wondering what your experience is in dealing with warts? Have you ever had a case of canine warts? How bad was the case? Did you treat the warts? How?

A few years ago Buster and Peanut have both had 1 wart each on their heads. They happened at about the same time and the vet gave me some ointment which melted them right off. (Nice guy, he says that can happen with "older dogs"... I said "Geez, they're both younger than ME in dog years!!") Anyhoo, year before last Buster got another one on the back of his neck. Well, I'd changed vets so I called the old vet, asked them to pull his chart and tell me what they'd given me, got supposedly the same stuff from the new vet. I don't know... it didn't look the same or have the same consistency at all and it didn't do a thing for the wart. The wart just kept getting bigger (it got about the size of a pencil eraser, maybe a bit smaller) over the space of about a year. Last summer when I took everyone in to do their teeth cleaning I had them remove the wart. I probably wouldn't have them take it off unless the vet thinks that it really should be removed- because they have to put the dog under to do it and the least amount of times you do that the better. BUT if you have soemthing done where he has to be under anyway, go ahead and take it off. Buster really started scratching at his a lot and making it bleed but once it was off- I think it was one stitch- he never scratched at the stitch. Hope that helps!
