If so, what percentage?

Grace just hates to look cheap... :)

I give my dog groomers 10% each. They do such a great job on my two hairy furbabies that sometimes I feel cheap tipping them only 10% when I tip my own hairdresser 20%.

As a matter of etiquette : 15-20% of the total bill is the right amount.

That's about right. In general peopel will tip about that much (if at all). I know personally how grooming a dog can be. Half the time the dog is difficult to deal with. Even though they are perfect little sweeties at home, they can be quite nasty when it comes to groomers. All those tools and noise makers scare them and they tend to assume the worst could happen to them even though it's just a brush or a blow-dryer. I tend to tip a little higher because of that but that's my personal feelings on it. Any tip is appreciated but keep in mind, being a return customer is the best compliment of all. ;)

I feel that if a person at least makes a minimum wage, tipping is optional like with restaurant servers, they make below minimum in some states where you would tip them. Then again, if the groomer does a great job or a lot of work, I think I would tip a few dollars or maybe if she is just really nice and you want to develope a repore with that person.

I think it depends too on how much work is done and how good they are to your dog. I just had my hair cut into layers and did bangs and my hair is longer than my waist. That was a lot of cutting for a first visit, so I told the haircutter I wanted to tip her more. Then at that long length, my hair was notty, so she had herself a work out. I tipped the other haircutter that helped brush out my wet hair. Next time I will tip less, and I will come in with washed wet hair which I usually do so the hair cutter does not have to struggle with my hair. I would have gone in with a wet head, but I decided to cut my hair as a last minute thing when I was going by the place.

Jennifer, I had to laugh when you said Grace hates to look cheap since that's my name and it's funny anyway:)

well i have never been to a dog groomer, but i would think that rule of thumb could be 15% like at a resturant. But like Grace says depending on how much work they have to do.

Grace E. I to have long hair and i won't let them wash my hair since i am so picky about my hair, took me long enough to get it this long and mine is about to the top of my hips.

T'was what I thought. I just didn't want to be "that girl" who didn't tip.
