WEll this is a new problem that ive encountered
Mutzy is allowed on the bed I know i know but she has never jumped down before. I dont want her jumping down becuase she has pins in it ans nerve damage still from the accident. She made the leap once and now is fearless. I dont know how to prevent her from jumping down! I fear she will hurt herself. I dont mind her being on the bed and before she tgot courage she would bark and id let her down. HELP!

We have a very high bed and a very short Corgi. The combination could be dangerous, but we didn't want to keep her off the bed because she loves to cuddle and burrow under the blankets. I built a sort of ottoman which is halfway between the floor and the top of the bed. She learned very quickly that it was much easier and more comfortable to use the "step" to get up and down.
There are also steps and ramps which can make it easier for small and older dogs.
Here are a few links I found:

Hope this helps!

Hi!
I have to ask....what kind of accident was Muttzy in. I think this must have happened before I joined, I've heard you talk about it, but don't know. Im just curious.

She was hit by a car last june She had surgery to fix her fractured arm and she has two pins. When i went to go pick her up they infomed me she had nerve damage in one arm and they might have to amputate if feeling doesnt come back. Well one year later shes doing just great. She has most of the feeling back and her oother arm seems to be very strong(knock on wood) Occasionally like after a bath or in cold weather her foot gets a little floppy and you see it when shes laying down but really that is far better than we had ever expected.

I have to say i have tried the step for the dogs but they did not care for it. But i put my bed down on the floor and they are fine with it and I really have no preference anyway so... but I would get mitzy a stool of some kind to help get up and down

For Shadrak I used a chair, but he looks to be a little bigger than your dog. If you sleep alone you could push the mattress a little off the box spring and it will kind of be like a built in step. You could pile up couch cushions maybe???

I have two yorkies and I used to have the regular pet steps, but then I found this site with the best doggie ramp. Go to Bedderbacks.com and you will see tha ramps. My ramp is sturdy and has a little side to it so the dog will feel secure and not fall off. It has kind of a treaded carpet on the ramp and the dogs can fly up and down the ramp with no problems. Check it out and you will be surprised how great they are.

does she have to jump off, is she doind it for a reason i mean like going potty or lying down somewhere else? if it's just for fun then you could also maybe try putting a baby gate along the side of your bed so she can't jump, or maybe make her a bed on the floor and enforce the fact that she must sleep there? that can be tricky cause i know how determined they can get when they want something! are the pins in for life?

My old poodle that i had had pins in her hip, she slept on the floor with my mom for a while after her surgery but then she went back to her regular routine of jumping on the bed i wonder why the vet never told us they could pop out maybe front legs bear more of the weight i don't know, but just some ideas to try.

How old is your dog by the way?

Shes a little over 1 year. Ive put an end to the problem simply by taking her down before she can jump down. I have absolutely no space for any steps ramps ottomons or anything of the sort. I can barely menouver myself around the bed lol. I was looking for maybe a behavioral answer i guess. I was more worried about her doing it when i wasnt home but i make sure i crate her. She usually hestitates before jumping down so thats where i swoop in and take her down. it gets to be a pain when shes up and down every 5 minutes but id rather not risk her getting hurt again. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Well after a bit ofmaneuvering with the furniture i found that i can put a small stool down and once she gets the hang of it, i can remover her crate and gate her in the room when im not home....creating more space. She seems to be getting the hag of it pretty well as you can see here....
