I found this article about pet food. Yikes, it's pretty bad and some may be surprised by what they read. I've seen some of this info before and I did post an article listed there about what's in pet food, but if you did not see it, here's another opportunity.
There is an eye opening article listed further down on the page called "Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts about Pet Food" There are quite a few articles and they are long, so I'm going to print them out to make them easier to read and go back to if I don't finish them all. They explain alot about food ingredients and what crap makes it into dog food that you could never imagine.

This is a link from the link I posted. I'm posting it just incase someone overlooks it. It's not pretty and it's about dead animals going into dog foods and which companies practice doing this:

I have also read a lot of this info. A lot of the books that I have also go into gruesome detail about the pet food industry. I was actually in a public communications/campaigning course last semester where I had to develop a campaign of choice. I chose to do one on the pet food industry with the tag "what goes into YOUR dog’s food" After presenting the campaign at the close of the semester, I had a lot of really disturbed people!! But its good info to get out in the open. The dog food companies have their marketing schemes perfected! It is really sad how they can twist the truth and get away with it! My personal favorites are the dog food ads that talk about their fabulous grain sources! Who would ever know by watching these ads that dogs do not need (or effectively utilize) grains. Or even that the hearty grains shown on the screen are actually middlings (waste swept up off of the floor after processing). It's all a bunch of deceit if you ask me! I could really go on for hours about the dog food industry!

Missy, I have seen this info over and over, but it was nice to have confirmation from you since you have researched this subject to know that it is not just "internet" info or biased info from someone with an agenda.

Not at all. I have not picked up a single book (outside of basic "care for your puppy" type books) that condone the practices of the pet food industry. When I originally bought a bunch of literature on dog allergies, I was shocked on the chapters dedicated to commercial dog food. I coulden't believe what these companies were getting away with! The reason nothing changes is because of the powerful marketing backing the products and consumers wanting a fast and easy, cheap food. And beyond that, most of the nutrtional training given to vets is from the pet food companies wanting to sell their products. The vets make a killing off of the sales, and the pet food indutry thrives. It is really sad :(
I know that you mentioned "Foods Pets Die For" in your previous post. That is actually a book by Ann N. Martin. There is also a sequel entitled "Protect your Pet: More Shocking Facts" Here are the links on amazon if you want them:
