hello all,
i have been out of wack for a bit. i am considering moving and i am wondering if this is going to affect my babies housetraining habits. chloe is 100% housetrained, she's 1 yr old and bailey is about 95% and he's 6 months old. has anyone experienced regression from a move? i'm really worried because the house i'm looking at has carpet almots EVERYWHERE and although i will remove it from the main areas, that won't happen for a little while.

let me know, thanks.

Okay, I moved and didn't have any problems. but Linda (who advised me through the whole thing) advised me to make sure I was extra careful during and after the move to re-enforce housetraining.
IMHO moving to a new house might actually help your housetraining as their wouldn't be any leftover pee smells for your dogs to re-mark. Be aware however that if the previous owners had dogs, your dogs may try to "cover" their scent.
Moving is stressful for everyone. If you have carpets and dogs I highly recommend having a steam spot cleaner and Nature's Miracle to clean accidents and have a full size steamer to steam the carpets as often as you remember. I found that that worked rather well but thankfully now, there is NO carpets in our home, it is all wood and tile.

As a recent homebuyer let me advise you that if this house doesn't feel perfect for you, keep looking. I ended up bidding on 3 different houses, and truly believe I ended up with the best house for me and mine. Although, I was very upset after losing the first two, I ended up with something better.
Good Luck!
Heather

hi heather,
thanks for the great advice. the previous owners do not have dogs so that is a plus and yes i will be getting a steam vac for sure. i pray that they do not regress :(
i think this is definitely the home for me and my family. it had everything and more than we wanted. it will be our 2nd and hopefully final home. my first home i must say i love dearly and final got it to where i wanted it after 4 yrs but then my husband wanted more space so we started looking. i got lucky and within 1 week ONLY i had 2 bids on my house and i chose the best and i put in a bid for the house i wanted and got accepted. so its all happening quite quickly but nicely. wish me luck, i hope all goes well.

Hi Jesse!
As Heather mentions, moving IS stressful for everyone. It's mentioned in Potty 101 as a trigger for SOME dogs. The main key to for you to try and behave as cheerfully and calmly about it all as you can, and offer EXTRA positive support.

Usually I tell my students to plan on giving the dog (s) a little two week REFRESHER course in proper potty behaviors, don't allow them to mill about without you being able to see them and react positive if you catch them about to have an accident, just as you would with an untrained dog or puppy.

Get them OUT quickly and joyfully, go out WITH THEM and Praise and Treat for proper potty behaviors outside, while ignoring accidents inside. If you WATCH them and set them up for success, it's rather doubtful that there will be much in the way of accidents inside anyhow. They'll be too excited to receive that extra happy praise and treat outside to forget to ask to go out!

Hope the new place is perfect and feels like home to all of you soon!
