I have a 10 month old Jack Russell, and I'm worried about his front legs...
They seem to bow out, and his feet point in opposite directions...

It doesn't seem to bother him, and he runs like crazy jumps with no problem...
But it's starting to get really noticable...
Has anyone else seen this before?? Is it really something to worry about??

here's a pic that shows it some what, see how his paw is bent outward?

Hi Eva! I have 5 Jacks. I think these are called "Queen Anne legs". They are a fault and you won't be able to show him, but if he's not a show dog they really shouldn't matter. Some people actually breed them that way, though why you would want to I have no idea. That being said, one of my Jacks has this ever so slightly. Whether or not it will impede your Jack's movements when he gets older is hard to say. I have a friend whose Jack has this very severely and he can run like crazy but he doesn't hop or jump so well. I know another lady whose Jacks has it (about like yours) and he's an agility champion. I've read that these legs can be more prone to luxating patellas so I'd keep an eye out for that (or have you vet take a look when you go for your check-ups and shots) but I've never personally known a Jack to have luxating patellas simply because of those legs. So don't worry! He's ok!

Hi Eva!
Jenna gave you some EXCELLENT information about this. You can, of course, speak to your Vet or even a Canine Orthopedic Specialist about it. I WOULD be sure to have him neutered. (Both because I am pro-spay/neuter, unless you ARE actively showing, earning points and titles and plan to professionally breed because YOUR dog is one of the best available in the dog show circuit (!) and because, as Jenna mentions...this is an undesired FAULT...and I agree 500%...why would some nitwit want to breed for this "look" is beyond me!)

<of course ALL dogs are the best in the world at loving US...Blue Ribbon Winners one and all! grin!>
