Here is a quick back story. 2 dogs, Life (approx. 100lb mutt; age: 2 1/2) and Teak (approx. 50lb mutt; age: 6) are my dogs and we (my husband and I) had a party at out house last Saturday. This included approx. 5-6 kids under the age of 6/7. Teak (college party veteran), being scared by nature, just hid under the table the whole night, or sat next to me. This was completely normal party behavior for him. This was the 2nd time Life had ever been to a big party in her life and the 1st one at her house. She was great the first time (New Years) and I although a little stressing, she had a wonderful time at our party. She would happily greet people at the door and was happy to be pet and pawed at by the children. I didn't let her out of my site (or another adult) but she did really really well. There was one point (and although others think she did it on purpose, I know it was a butt sniffing thing) where she "helped" a toddler up onto the couch with her nose. It was cute as heck.
Now, here is the "catch". She was SO tired, it was after 11:00 PM (party started at 6PM) and there was one little obnoixious boy who (and I still don't know why) kept flinging himself onto the hard wooden floor in front of the dog. I was cleaning up a lake of orange soda that had been spilt on my floor (more than once throughout the night). Life, after the millionth time of this kid doing this, leaned quickly in and although I can't be sure almost gave the kid a muzzle correction. She didn't make contact (I believe she was just warning him) but it scared the crap out of the kid who then wacked himself on the step and cried.
His parents saw the whole thing (don't know why they didn't stop him earlier) and completely blame the child (who has 2 dogs), but I still felt a little bad. However, in general everyone was very complimenary regarding the calm and sweet nature of both my dogs.
I realize I should have been more careful, however in my defense this was supposed to be an "adult" party and do not know how all these kids ended up there, and how I ended up being the babysitter...
oh well, alls well that ends well.
Just thought I would share.
