I just thought I would post a few pics of Boomer. His ears have finally decided to stand up, and he is really starting to look like a German Shepherd. Either way, ears up or down, we love him..but I think he is looking so handsome with those ears up!

Thank you all for the nice words! Boomer is great. He is a little stubborn, and doesnt always like to listen if he doesnt see the point...but we are getting there. He is so friendly and affectionate...very non-typicalgerman shepherd like (hes not aloof to strangers or other dogs at all). He has a great temperment which with two young children is a MUST HAVE! We are just completely happy with him, no matter what he chews up!!!

He is gorgeous. I am thankful that i don't have the chewed up items though, but i have enough raw hide around the house that they don't need my stuff...lol

I know some dogs ears may not go up until they are finished teething. He is one beautiful dog!!!
Yeah, that's when you know you're in love, when they chew things up and you're still smiling:) My dog likes to run into my parrots papers under him and stops for 1/2 second to tear a piece off and run with it, then she comes around again and slides into the paper and keeps tearing. It's so much fun to see her happy, because she is having a ball doing it, that I don't stop her. She only does it every once in a while. She gets a wild look in her face which is hysterical.
Bye, Grace

Boomer has lots to chew on and keep him occupied too, but it just isnt as fun as the other stuff he can find...out of nowhere I should add. He looks under beds, and has been sneaking up on the counter in the bathroom to see what he can find. He seems to like my kids stuffed animals the most. He will come out with a bunny, or something else, and look at you like "what???"

German Shepherds arent aloof or unfriendly to strangers, unless the stranger gives them a reason to be. And that doesnt kick in till they are two or more. Id be worried about a puppy of anybreed being reserved with people.

I agree, I just am so glad that he has such a personable attitude towards strangers. Our bridge girl Roxie was a GSD/rottie mix, and she was very fear aggressive, and unsociable. She was very untrusting of strangers even though we had been socializing her from a young pup. She was very diff. to take to places because everyone was leary of coming close to her. I had even decided that puppy obedience would be a bad idea. She was NOT good around other dogs...no matter how much we soc. her. She would have been a very unsociable adult dog, and with Boomer have have confidence that he is going to be a big lovey dovey dog!! And of course if there were some reason for him to be "alert" I would want him to be.
And when I was doing research on GSDs one of the traits that was described over and over was their aloofness. Not that I feel they are supposed to be unfriendly towards strangers, but they dont have the outgoing personality of a lab or golden for ex. We had a lab mix growing up that did not really "trust" a stranger until we invited them in. He figured that if we said it was okay, then it was okay with him. I always felt very safe with him around. But just goes to show that most all dogs have some form of protective instinct. Even if they are the happy go lucky dogs any other time.
I hope that I was not coming off trying to mis-represent the GSD breed...but I have had some previous experience with a GSD mix that was not the greatest. Boomer is working out perfectly!
