I posted this once before, but I may have worded it wrong, cause I got no answers. My Mickey has been on canned prescription food for almost two weeks now. The vet told me to try a little of his old food (California Natural dry) mixed in and get him back on that completely, well he eats the canned stuff and leaves the dry in the bowl, I tried mixing in a little of the California Natural canned food thinking maybe that will be an easier transition, he really doesn't like that either. They tell me when he gets hungry he will eat, but how long should I let him go without eating, he will eat just a little, like he knows how much to eat just to keep from starving to death. It is very frustrating, should I try mixing in a little cooked chicken or liver or steak chopped up to get him to eat?

Peggy,
Why is Mickey on the CN, lamb formula? I feed my 2 shih tzus Innova Adult Kibble ( chicken ) and can food, also made by Natura the same Co that makes CN.
I mixed their kibble with a bit of plain yogurt in the morning and sometimes I give them a bit of 100% pure pumpkin ( not the pie filler ) for variety. At dinner I give them: kibble mixed with the Innova can food ( a full tablespoon. ) They just love it!

Mickey has some allergy symptoms and we are thinking maybe it is wheat and/or all the preservaties that are in some foods, CN was recommended by the people at the Pet Supply store I go to. I also am not sure how much he really should eat, although he is a mini-schnauzer he weighs 34 pounds, he doesn't seem to be overly fat and he seems to have plenty of enery and gets lots of excercise. According to the can of CN he should have like almost two whole cans a day which could get to be quite expensve, hence the dry food perferably.

Peggy, go to www.naturapet.com (http://www.naturapet.com/) click on tools ( on top ) then click on Feeding Profile Wizard on how much to feed Mickey. Since he is a medium size dog, I think you can feed him more kibble than can. Perhaps, you can put him on another formula by Natura. As I said, my dogs eat Innova Adult kibble and can and they are both allergic to wheat. Innova chicken, turkey formula does not contain wheat.
Hope this helps.
