crate training

My question is...How does crate training work? I put my Beagle puppy, Molly, in it at night and take her out to do her thing in the morning when she starts barking. I keep her in a play pen during the day while I'm at work, then my daughter lets her out when she gets home at 3pm to again do her thing. How does she learn to eventually go outside?

:confused: Hello Susan,

Your story sounds a lot like mine. Unfortunately, because Angel went on pee-pee pads in my kitchen, in her pen, she continues to poop there. If your puppy is not messing up the crate, I'd say you are a giant step ahead of me! I am about to give up on the crate altogether and puppy-proof the kitchen. At least, I'd have a messy floor, not a messy dog and crate and toys, etc, along with a very aggravated and frustrated mommy!

Well, I certainly am venting, aren't I? I'm sorry, I'm not much help. :-( I think there is an excellent article about housetraining in the article section. I know there are a great bunch of people on this site who will give you better information, and hopefully won't gripe like I did! sorry!
