I have a puppy beagle (long ears) and her name is Baby.. and boy does she live up to her name! hehehe. I was wondering how to put bows on her  . Even though I have a pink collar on her everyone calls her a he and I know it's silly but I quickly correct them. I've tried loosely tying pink bows on her cute floppy ears but they quickly fall off. When I went to the pet store they had some with elastic rubber bands... I'm assuming (and you know what they say about that) that the rubber bands go around her ears but I would rather not mess up. Please help me figure it out. Thanks.

Those rubber bands do stay but it depends on how you are putting them on. Does your puppy have long hair? If so, then the rubber bands are to be treated as if you are making a ponytail in your own hair. If the fur is not long enough to be in a ponytail then the collor is generally the best option for you.

Hi Tiffany,
I have a mini poodle, and when she comes back from the groomer sometimes they've put a bow just above one of her ears. I don't like it personally, but my mum thinks it's adorable, so I leave it in for a little while. :p
The way they attach it is like Anne said, to my pup's fur like a ponytail. She's a poodle and we keep her groomed in an even cut (no pom poms!) but long around the face so she has a little beard...looks like Benji. So that's why they can attach the bow, the hair is longer on her head.
I don't think you can do the same with your beagle as they have short, smooth fur, unless you somehow attach a bow to her collar. I've also seen some collars in shops here that already have bows on them. Maybe you could get one of those?
Good luck with the bow hunting!

I was thinking you might be able to use barrettes. I found this site with a listing of them, I don't know if it will work for your little girl :)
http://www.myshelties.com/tinytoybarrettes.htm
And I'm sure they are not much different than the ones that are used on people :) So I'm sure you'd be able to find some at like Wal Mart for cheaper than what she has on her site, just to see if it will work.

just thought of something else... I don't know what they are called, but I had some... they are these little sparkly things that you put in your hair, but they don't have a clip. They have velcro type things on the back, and they just stick there. They don't hurt, and people will use them on like special occasions and stuff. http://www.bridesandbells.c om/CH6819.htm something like that...

Liz, I know those velcro hair thingies you suggested, I've tried them in my own hair before but they fall out after 5 seconds! So I doubt they'll stay in the short, smooth hair of a beagle like Baby. Maybe my hair is too 'slippery' or something! At my graduation formal the hairdresser had to use wire and a million bobby pins to keep my hair up and the baby roses in! LOL!

I have no more advice about bows/ribbons/etc than what was given already.
I just had to sympathize with you and your puppy.
Everyone who doesn't know my Peanut calls her "he" as soon as they see her. She's a big girl, so maybe that's the reason. But to me, she looks like a pretty girl. Waldo, my boy and a little scrapper of a dog, never is mistaken for female. I've put ribbons in Peanut's hair on special occasions, and she got such wonderfully feminine compliments. But without those ribbons, forget it!
A usual exchange goes something like this:
Stranger: He's a handsome dog!
Me: Yup, SHE is a pretty GIRL! :p
Oh well.

How adorable! Yeah I made a little mistake but because I didn't take the time to observe if it was a boy or a girl Great Dane. But since it looked like a baby horse I called it a he and opps.. i feel into my own tradgedy. haha.

Hi Tiffany, my beagle Nala looks completely like a boy, I like to call her my little "tomboy gal", I don't know how you can difference a dog boy from a dog girl, but they always tell Nala "What a cute boy!!"... so the other day I tried the bow rubber thing, first, she would take them off the first chance she had and second, people still called her a boy, other day I tried putting her a dress, big mistake, she jumped on a water fountain and dress, there it went... plus, my sister said she looked like a drag queen... Anyway I gave up and finally accepted the fact that my little girl still will be called a boy, just hope it doesn't harm her self esteem and feminity (sp???)!!!! :D

That's funny that you say that about your Saint P-Nut. I have a little boy Silky(not sure if he's a silky/yorkie mix, but he's got the looks of both) that I am growing out long. I hope to get it long like the show coat of a yorkie to see what it will look like. Anyways, no matter where we go people automatically assume he's a girl just because he's a small little dog with long hair! It kind of upsets me because I can't see why they would think of my handsome little boy as being a girl. Well, okay when I painted his nails maybe, lol, but it was red and not pink! Anyways, I think people just relate big dogs with looking masculine and little dogs with looking feminine. ~Lauren
