I'm not sure if I put this in the correct spot. This is about training, however.

Renee Premaza,

I read on your website that do in-home obedience classes in the South Jersey area. As you are on this forum, I'm assuming that you teach with positive reinforcement. I live in Louisiana, so I know that you cannot help me yourself, but can you point me in the direction of someone that could help me with Sally? I like the description of what you do during your in-class session, as most of this Sally needs...I'm sure you've read my posts about her before. I was thinking about enrolling her in the puppy classes at my Petsmart, but I want to talk to the trainer first. I talked to her for about an hour about Sally before and she gave me some pointers, but I want to bring Sally along with me so she can see exactly how she is.

You just seem like someone that I would really trust to work with my dog...do you know someone down here that I can trust to do the same things as you do in your in-class session? Thanks so much!

Where in LA are you? If you are in the BR area I could tell you one trainer to NOT take to your dog to! :) Also, I spoke with one of the girls at the petsmart there and she seemed terrific. My dog is graduating from basic this coming Sunday from a petsmart here in FL and I really enjoyed my experience/trainer. They, from my experiece, seemed to be great advocates for positive reinforcement and were very interested in helping me and my dog.

I'm sorry, Renee...I thought she was still on here. I could have sworn I've seen some posts where you said that you wanted her to respond recently. I'll email her...thanks.

Kendall, I live in Slidell. It's about an hour and a half away from Baton Rouge. Did you go to the Slidell Petsmart or the Baton Rouge Petsmart? The trainer I talked to at the Slidell Petsmart is a wonderful lady...I still have yet to see how she trains though. Could you let me know who not to go to, please? Any amount of info would help...Thanks!

I went to Petsmart in BR, sorry. The bad lady is called, "Diamonds in the ruff" and her name eludes me now, but I'd know it if I heard it. Thank god I got out of the class--- I didnt even know how wrong everything she was doing was until way after the fact. It just didnt feel right so I stayed out of the class after the first session. She had us putting our dogs on choke collars, popping their noses to teach them not to jump up, popping their chins if the didnt take treats politely... And that was just day one!!!! She advertises at my old vet in BR and I've been thinking abotu calling them and seeing if they would pull her cards. Denise Landin!!! Thats her name!!!! I remember!!! :) Anyway, she had over 20 dogs in the class and does pretty good business it seems, unfortunately.

Renee P does come on this site, but not as frequently as she used to. So you might have more success emailing her....before this thread falls by the wayside and she doesn't get a chance to see it...

Hi all - I just saw your post today Amber. I have been looking for a trainer/behaviorist who works only with positive reinforcement, and went to Renee P's site, about two weeks ago. She is in NJ and I am on Long Island, but I felt perhaps she could at least direct me, so I e-mailed her. As busy as she is she answered me within 24 hours, and did have a recommendation. I e-mailed that person, who was very competent and of course with the recommendation, I really felt secure. She also was a bit too far away to come into my home, but she answered me quickly. However, I have found someone after a long search. It's been a long day but I'll post in the next couple of days on denfensive dogs, where I began my questions on searching for a trainer and got some really great help from Renee B and Roberta.

Thank you Kendall! I'll make sure I stay away from her.

Alberta and Renee, I went to Renee P.'s website and emailed her. She came back on DB and looked at my threads on Sally and asked for some more info. She gave me some links to try and I emailed the additional info back to her. Now I'm just waiting for her response. Even though she is quite busy, she responded to my first email within 24 hours.

Okay...I just got her second email. Wow...she is GREAT! I wish she lived down here in Louisiana.
