I successfully trained my puppy to go on wee-wee pads in the kitchen. Now that he has had his shots I want to train him to go outside.

My problem is he will not go outside - either pee or poo.

I have tried crate based training and no matter how long I leave him in the crate he won't go outside and as soon as we get him back in he goes right to the pads and does his business - i have tried the following
-bringin a clean pad outside
being a solied pad outside
long walks
short walks
using a code "hurry up"

I am at wits end - just now i caught him doing his business on the rug - I said NO loud and carried him outside. We stayed outside for 5 minutes and he did no more. Within five minutes of getting back in the house he finished his poop - again on the rug.

Please help - we are moving to a new house in June and my fiance told me if the dog is not trained by then we both sleep outside

Sometimes pee pads can cause this problem - your dog is just confused because he has leaned to use the pee pads. I would ditch them entirely and start from scratch. Keep your dog in the crate or tethered to you at all times. Take him out every 15-20 minutes. If he does "go" outside - immediately make it a "party". Offer treats, praise and play. Be consistant. If he doesn't go after 5 minutes or so, no big deal...Just bring him back inside. NEVER yell at or punish your dog for a mistake. This will only confuse and scare your dog and will also delay your potty training (this is why so many people have problems house training their dogs). This can be a stressful time, so just hang in there. If you are patient and consistant, your dog will soon learn to "go" outside.

Renee has given you some great suggestions and I've located and posted Potty 101 to add to your "Back to Basics" understanding and NEW lesson plan!

You may want to just pull those pads now, so that they are no longer an option for him, while you pile on the POSITIVE support for going in the new location!

Always gear YOUR mind to thinking House TRAIN not House Break, it will help keep YOU sharp and focused on your ultimate goal...to TEACH him what you want him to understand and DO!
