I have a 3 yr. old Mini-Schnauzer that seems to have allergies, the vet had prescribed Prednosone, which helps, but I don't want to keep him on that for long term. I am going to try him on a new food, (probably whitefish and potatoe), the vet said not to give him anything else at all until you see if the allergy is going to go away with the new food.
My questions is- what about treats, he has some behavior problems that we have been working on and has always been rewrded with treats. He likes raw carrots, apples and some other vegetables, I'm thinking that he most likely wouldn't be allergic to these.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. :?: :?:

I am guessing your vet wants to see if your dog is allergic to grains, so he wants you to keep to a grainless food. I'm guessing the food you mentioned is grainless.

I'm not sure how to answer your question. If you feed your dog those treats and he is allergic to that, you won't know if it's from the treats or the current food which may show he is allergic to fish or potato if his allergies continue or even something else. They sound like safe treats to me because they don't contain grains, but I would double check with the vet.
