We rescued this pup about 2 months ago and we were told he is an Akita/Border Collie Mix. He is about 4 1/2 months old now and is growing super fast. He is currently 30 lbs.
Everyone on the street asks us if he is a pit-bull, and though I see the resemblence on the face, his eyes, ears and fur are totally different. I've emailed the rescue shelter where we got him and she sent an email to the kill shelter in KY where they rescued him to verify, but no response yet.
I think he has some lab because of the fur, and Akita because of the tail and his eyes are border collie, but I have no idea. Any thoughts?

Hmmm. I see the pit in his face, maybe, but who knows. He's a cutie! Enjoy!

His face looks like a pit, but Akitas have that kind of square big face too, so who knows, he does look like he has lab fur... what I'm sure he is, is a gorgeous little pup!!!!! ;)

I can see the Pit-shaped head, but from what I can see from the pics, his body is smaller built than a Pits. Could it be because he has a Lab's fur, the Akita's squarish head is more prominent?
He's a gorgeous pup though, beautiful colourings and glossy coat! What a beaute!

There are many different breeds that have the squareness of the head like a Pit. I know my friend had a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and as a puppy she was not furry...I thought she was a Pit mix. As it turned out, after growing into an adult and getting furry, we could tell what she was.

I think one of the pleasures of getting a mixed breed puppy is that nobody is quite sure what he'll look like when he's fully grown. That's why I preferred to get one already fully grown... no surpises. Should be interesting to see what he is when he grows up! What's the little cutie's name?

His name is Bailey and he is a delight.
Thanks for all the input. I agree and don't think he is part pit, but we just want to know so that if we are ever to get another dog we want one just like him. He is fun, cute, and smart.
Thanks again.
