For those of you who have studied dog behavior I am very interested in any experiences you wish to share. What school did you attend, what did you specialize in, etc. I am very interested in enrolling at one of the colleges and would love to have any advice or suggestions you could give to someone like myself. I really appreciate any help!

Hi Kendall,

Here are a few ways you can get an education in animal behavior:

- apprentice with a dog trainer/behaviorist
- read lots of books about dog behavior and training
- donate your time to the humane society
- pursue a formal education at a university
- attend educational seminars that behaviorists and dog trainers put on

I would definitely recommend a formal education of some sort, along with an infomal education such as working with a good trainer or with shelter dogs. I spend a lot of time at the dog park every week, and that alone has taught me so much about canine communication systems and interaction. The more miles you can get with dogs (in any way), the better.

Excellent question Kendall! I have been thinking the same thing for a while now, although I think most of the information about formal education won't be valid as I currently live in Hong Kong! I looked into Cynology College though cos I know they offer internet courses. Still thinking about it...
