On Sat. night (4/16/05) my mom lost her 14 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel. She had to put her to rest. Here is the story:
My mom had 2 dogs. A 14 year old German Shepard and a 14 1/2 year old cocker spaniel. The GS is a very loving dog, but very crabby with the Cocker, especially because the cocker was blind and deaf. The cocker would run into the shepard all of the time. Sometimes she would take it, other times not so well. My mom would seperate the dogs when she was not home, just in case.
On Sat. night, my mom was eating her dinner and she heard the GS growl, then the cocker yelp. She scolded the GS and sent her to her bed. Then she went to look at the cocker and reassure her that she was OK. Then my mom saw the blood. The GS got the eye of the cocker and pulled it out of the socket. Mom rushed her to the emergency vet and there was nothing they could do to save the eye. It was decision time for my mom. She called me to fill me in, this was my dog when I was home..she was my little girl.
We decided that she was 14 1/2 years old, she had a good life, she had some tumors on the underside of her, so we decided to put her to rest. It was a hard decision, but we feel it was the right one for our Trina.
The GS misses her Trina as well. It has been 5 days now and Misty (the GS) will still walk around crying, going to the spots where Trina often layed.
We know Misty was not trying to harm Trina, she was just saying I am crabby, get out of my way and the 1 and a million chance happened, she got Trinas eye. Had it been her ear or behind all would have been OK. Misty didn't even get out of her lay position when she snapped at Trina.
Thanks for letting me share my story. I thought if I waited until later, I could type it up without crying, but I guess that didn't work..

Oh Sheri, your story literally broke my heart! I'm so sorry that this has happened. My heartfelt condolenses to you, Misty and your mom. Things happen for a reason and it was just maybe time for Trina to go to the rainbow bridge and rest. She is 100% better there now, that's something that can make you feel better.

Oh Sherri, I'm very sorry for your loss... its always a difficult decision to let a friend go... but sometimes, its the best for them, specially when they are that old and on pain... I'm sure Misty is wondering were did the "little brat" go, but no is the time to give her all the support she needs and your mom too, this was 14 years!!!! that's a lifetime!!!!
A huge hug from all of us!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this! What an aweful way to go! But Trina is in a good place right now. 14 1/2 years is a long time. Trina certainly did have a good life :). My condolences to you, your mom, and Misty.
