This was something posted onto another dog site that a member started. The plan is to send thank you letters to the girl and the mayor who are trying to start this program please read through the proposed law and if you would like to send a letter to the girl/mayor you can email your letter to sharajj@gmail.com or ask her if she has the adress.

Here is the post:

"In St. John's Newfoundland a girl named Maria wrote a letter to her Mayor about how dog owners should be responsible for their dogs and should need to pass a test. "

We are extrememly proud of this little girl and would like to let her know how we feel. I've asked the Mayor if we can send her letters to his office and am waiting to here back.

If you are interested in sending me a letter to forward to Newfoundland send it to sharajj@gmail.com .

Also I can not access the letter via the link. However, one should consider the possible consequences for instituting test for somebody to be allowed to care for a dog. For one, it seems really hard to agree on a universal standard that dog owners should be held to. Also, if a test is required to care for a dog, then why not have a test for people who want to have children?

Maybe we should just draw up clear laws on what constitutes abuse (of dogs) and find ways to properly enforce them.

Thanks Jill.
I couldn't figure out why the link wasn't working. I thought the site was having problems.
Thanks
