So does anyone watch this? I haven't seen it, but I remember seeing the commercials. I looked online and it looks like it will be on Wednesday night so I am going to check it out tomorrow!

Have to admit I saw it last week! Ridiculous...but I watched it anyway. Some of these people just go wayyyyy to far.

Yeah, that's what I've also heard. I guess these people are really over the top and many showdog people are not anything like them. But I've heard it's funny too, so I just have to check it out.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. My wife and I have watched it a couple of times and it makes us feel that we're not so crazy.
I feel the worst for that kid whose mom is trying to teach him to show. When she talks about what he wants and likes it's pretty interesting, because I don't get that same impression from him.

Agreed. The show, at times, is difficult for me to watch. I can only imagine how some of those animals feel... Just because you buy your pet expensive food and things does not mean you are giving him/her what she REALLY needs.
However, I love the dog whisperer and the brit equiv. on the animal channel!

I love Showdog Moms and Dads, I think it's interesting to see what people will do. I record it every week. I feel bad for the gay couple who are trying to train their Fox Terrier to be a show dog. They just are not getting it lol. The dog bit the judge at their first show! But to each his own! lol,

I'm not much of a TV person, so I completely forgot about the show being on. :(

I forgot, too. But right now, I'm in the process of trying to watch season 2 of 24.

The kid's over-reaction to that just screams serious emotional problems (as do many of the other things I've seen in him).

I don't. They say it's been a dream to do this, but clearly know nothing about dogs. They're also both so immature (the humans). It's like watching 8-year-olds interact. I feel bad for the dogs.

I ran across this show the other night while channel surfing. I watched half of it then got tired of it because I didn't care for the people that were being featured - I just thought they were all pretty weird. I had watched another show not too long ago that featured dog handlers and although I thought they were obssessed with what they were doing, and could get some real "attitudes" over things, at least they were more realistic characters to me. And in all reality shows, one must remember that even though people are playing themselves, they are still playing a "character" of themselves, and things are exagerrated for the camera. They are told to act in extreme manners to make the show interesting. After all, who wants to watch day to day reality -it can be pretty boring. I think I'd rather set up the video cam and watch my dog sleeping in the back yard all day, then this stuff.

I could buy that with the adults, but I'm not so sure when it comes to the kids.
Either way, I've met enough people who are as clearly nuts about their dogs and how they react to things as the people on that show that I don't really find it hard to believe.

Kids can be good actors too. But I do agree there are people just like those featured on the show, whether they are acting or not. Regardless, I thought the show was ridiculous. I might enjoy it if they showed people that were a bit more "normal". like all of us here on the doggie forum :bunny:

I would enjoy the show much more and probably continue watching it if they continued to show different dog breeds licking new hot latin models naked booty's each episode.

I've been happily TV-free for many years now. I am thankful I haven't gotten sucked into the reality TV show craze. From what I hear and read, it all seems pretty ridiculous. :)

Jarrod, you might like The Simple Life with Nicole Ritchie & Paris Hilton better, then  Of course I'm assuming you would be interested in the little dog that travels with them, Tinkerbell, right?

I usually hate reality shows. I think this is the only one where I've really watched more than one episode.

i looove the show ive watched every episode ive seen dog show people act that same way at shows and about thier dogs on that animal planet show dont member the name but it had the same kind of people in it chalsys mom way over reacted about the paw thing i could sympathize if she was showing her i didnt catch if chalsy is a show dog seems to do more dog sports and performances but the terrier liberace i hope after the surgery his #### drop so they can show him but they really need to stop treating him like a baby so he does not get spoiled and bite judges seems to me they need an experienced handler to work with them and show the dog then when the dog gets good they can learn. whens katie havin pups

Has anyone seen the one on Animal Planet, "who gets the dog"? Or something like that. They take 1 rescued dog, and 3 couples/families. The dog gets to stay overnight with each family. They have to teach the dog 1 thing that the host gives them. The whole time with the family is taped. Then the "expert" judges decide which family "gets the dog" for keeps.
Some of these people have no idea what they are doing. Sometimes, I just  :rolling:

I have seen that show! I only saw it the one time and didn't really pay much attention, but I remember all the kids were so excited to play with the puppy. It was really sweet.

Yeah, I've seen Who Gets the Dog. It's a cute show. I am an animal planet junkie, except for that stupid show The Dog Whisperer. He is full of it lol. He uses psychobable to try to make cruelty to animals sound ok. Anyways, I like Who Gets the Dog. Good concept, but I hate how for three days the dog is all confused, being shuffled here and there, but he gets a good home in the end, :bunny:

First off, Lauren...where are you from? The Dog Whisperer is on National Geographic where I'm at, and LOVE the show. I've used many of his techniques on Precious and they worked wonders! I emailed him to see if he would do a home consultation for me for Sally. I'm waiting for a reply. I'm not sure he will come to Louisiana though, as he has his own business in CA.

Amber- San Antonio, you're right, it does air on National Geo, but here it is also on Animal Planet. I don't really watch Natl. Geo., so the main place I have seen it is Animal Planet. I did not mean to offend you. I was simply stating my opinion. I do not believe in the practices he uses to train dogs. It is not purely +R, so I do not agree it. He also performs "alpha roles," which in my opinion harm the dog, the handler, and the bond between them. Again, I'm sorry I offended you, I was just stating my opinion,

You didn't really offend me...I was just saying that I LOVE him. Are you sure we're watching the same guy?? I've never seen him use Alpha Rolls and I've watched every episode. Maybe it's a completely different show! lol
I use purely positive training techniques with my animals, as I have a rescue dog with mulitiple issues and a poodle that couldn't handle anything but positive reinforcement (lol)...the show I watch has always used positive techniques. Is it Cesar Millan?? A Mexican man with a kind of heavy accent?
Lauren Frisbie

Yes, it's the same guy. He did an alpha roll like a really long time ago. I think it was like one of the first episodes. Also, he has forced dogs into water when they are water shy. I just don't agree with his practices. I'm glad I didn't offend you, sometimes I have a hard time conveying my opinion in a considerate way lol. Your pups sound so cute! Good luck with them,
