Hi,
I'm new to Doggie Bag.
We rescued a 1 1/2 yr old lab/bordie collie (Ellie) a couple of Months ago and she is driving me nuts.
I have 2 major problems. I can not keep her from jumping up on the counters in the kitchen. So everything I have is pushed as far back as possible and she can still get at them. I always tell her down and she does right away but she keeps on doing it. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Also she has a tendancy to grab my wrists and chew at them causing bruising to me she can be such a sweetheart and almost instantly she can turn into a jumping biting barking maniac. I found myself yelling at her quite a bit so I start to talking calmly to her saying No. Doesn't always work. I am getting very frustrated with the whole thing. I just don't know what to do?
Can anyone give me any suggestions. She plays great for a while then starts her aggresiveness.
thanks

Some previous suggestions that I have heard for the counter surfing are putting double sided tape at the edges. Also, getting one of those carpet protectors with the little pointy nubs underneath. Only cut some strips and put it on the counter with the pointy nubs up.

Hi Sue~ THank you for adopting Ellie! Sounds like Ellie is a bundle of energy with no clue what the house "rules" are.

First thing to do is put Ellie on NILIF. Please click here to read about NILIF
http://www.doggiebagonline. com/articles/article.php?articlei d=15
NILIF will help calm Ellie down a bit & help teach her some manners.

Counters~

Stop telling her "down" it's pointless, she isn't listening.
Make sure she never gets anything off the counter, if she does it will be a huge reward to her. Don't leave anything tempting(smelly) on the counters- if you need to use the microwave to "hide" food. One thing that seems to deter dogs from jumping up on the counters is opening the drawers below the counter a 3 to 6 inches. Also think of what you want her to do instead of jumping on the counters- lay on her bed, sit? Whatever it is that you want her do, start rewarding her (praise &treat) when she does it.

Wrist issue~

Anytime Ellies mouth comes into contact anywhere on you, Immediately cross your arms over your chest & turn away from her & ignore her. Do this every single time.

Let us know if you need anything else.
