Yesterday I noticed my 6-month-old Beagle/Rat Terrier mix had a thick, cloudy, yellow discharge on the tip of his penis. I saw it again today. We have only seen it these 2 times, but have noticed Baxter does seem to be licking his penis more often than he used to. He is neutered... I called my father in law (vet) and he said this is not anything to worry about. They have seen it in other male dogs, but to keep an eye on him for any unusual (sick) behavior. I am a worry wart and not that I don't believe my father in law, I just want to know if anyone else has ever noticed this on their male dog? This is the first male dog I have owned and want to make sure he is OK. He is still going to the bathroom at normal times and intervals, he is still eating, still playing, no temp. All else seems normal. I am just a worrywart?

Bogart gets it too and it leaves gross smears all over my comfortable. I have to wash my sheets every week because of this. If it develops a really foul odor I would be concerned of an infection, but it's normal to see this kind of discharge on a male. My vet told me it is called...and the name is just plain gross....smegma.

This is normal. You can flush it out with warm water and a syringe. Disgusting to think about though. I've had to do it with my Weimaraner.

The vet also sells some sort of flush thing for penile discharge although I am unsure what it is called or how much it runs.

If there is a smell then yes go to the vet immediately. This can be a clear, green or yellow discharge (I have 5 boy dogs)
