I can start a new thread now, I'm at work!! I picked Fischer on Friday. Hubby & I went to see him on Saturday, and Sunday, we decided to go fishing for a couple of hours, and pass by the kennel on the way to the river, so we stopped again!! i think he'll know us by the time we take him home.

Jill, when you pick him up to bring him home, why don't you pick up one for me too and send out here to California? After all I'm a May baby like you are and deserve to have a nice birthday present, too, don't I? :wiggle:

I hope we get to see tons of pictures when you bring him home. I think it will be just the cutest thing to see little Fischer next to Finn!!

Hi Jill,

Just curious if you were ever concerned about your new puppy being a male since Finnegan is a male? Could there be potential issues with the male-male combo down the road? (I am wondering because Nalu is a male and I have always heard that when I get a second dog it should be a female to avoid competition, fighting, etc.)

Or does it matter less since the puppy will be so young when you get him?

Also, I have heard that the first dog should pick out their new brother or sister to make sure they will like them and get along. Again, does this not matter since Fischer is so young?

Since Finnegan has no dog aggression, that I've ever seen, I've been told that it should be ok. Also, both dogs will be neutered. I called the person who has the puppy class at our training club and asked her if I need to do anything as far as introductions. She gave me the same advice as DD and DB. Introduce on neutral ground. Make sure Finn is always first. First to eat, out the door, petting, talking, etc. Let him know that he is special, and will always be our #1 pup!! Finnegan still has a lot of puppy left himself (he's 17 months), so I don't think it's quite the same as introducing 2 adult dogs. More of sibling rivalry & jealousy. We will get Fischer on Friday or Saturday, and I will be off work the whole next week, so we'll have plenty of time to bring Fischer into the family, and keep Finnegan happy. (I hope) Of course, I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for your concern. :yourock:
