Ok guys. I have just figured out what my dog has always done! It is called a reverse sneeze. It is where they kind of stop and sound like they are dying, with snort and almost wheezing. My 6 month old pup has always done this and I've never known what it was. I thought it was regular sneezing, so at every vet check, I insist on the vet checking his lungs for a respiratory infection. Everytime his lungs are clear. The sneezing didn't seem to be happening often enough to be considered allergies or anything else significant, so we left it alone. Well, tonight I just happened to be looking on this site about human meds for dogs and I came across this info. It cracked me up, because my dog has all the textbook symptoms. I am just laughing and chuckling, but also glad that it isn't anything serious. Okay, just wanted to share this bit of info, night all,

Lola usually does the reverse sneeze thing after she drinks a lot of water  If I wipe the water off her nose she stops, so I've never been too worried about it. I figured it was because the water was getting into her nose while she was breathing and she was trying to get it out. It's funny though!!

I once took my first foster dog to the vet in a tizzy because of reverse sneezing. I'd never heard such a racket from a dog in all my life. Scared the bejeezers outta me! She woke me at 2 a.m. with that horrific sound. I thought she was going to die in my lap that night. I think it was all the vet could do not to laugh right in my face.

They do sound wierd. Kind of like a combination of a hiccup and a sneeze, my KC used to do it all the time but Magic hasn't had one yet.
