Hello.
Our pup is destroying our lawn with his urine. There are a number of yellow patches...I don't really care all that much - but our landscaper said that we could reduce the number of yellow spots by putting a little bit of tomato juice in our pup's water. Has anyone heard of this before? Anyone tried it?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks all!

Sorry about the brown patches. Just reseed those areas for now. To prevent it from happening again just take a pail or watering can and mix one half cup of baking soda in about one gallon of water then sprinkle that solution where they tinkle. It will neutralize the acid in the urine and you won't have brown grass anymore.

My mom, sister and aunt all give their dogs tomato juice over thier food to help with the yellow spots.. The dogs love it and think it is a special treat and my mom, sister and aunts yards look great!! This will be my first summer with my puppy, so I will have to see what he does to my yard, but if we see a lot of yellow, I will probably go out and buy some tomato juice as well. Good Luck.

I too need to see about fixing a LOT of yellow spots on the lawn. I bought the tomato juice and am now individually walking the two dogs to a designated spot to go...but they are not happy about it. I bought wood chips to put in the area I want them to go and they are finally going number one...but not number two. Any ideas on this?

I went to the garden section and bought those 18" white garden picket fences and made a 10 x 10 foot square area with one section left out for entry for Magic to use for her potty. I take her out and she goes in that area and does her pee and I stand in the opening until she does her poop. It took about three weeks of that for her to understand what I wanted her to do. Now the rest of the back yard is free of doggie truffles and brown patches.

Do you think maybe my dogs dislike the wood chips? I am going to use your idea and get the small fencing and more woodchips and make it a bigger area...maybe that will help? Three weeks huh? Seems like a long time...but considering I have let them use the whole yard over the winter, I deserve it. I taught them, now I have to redo it. I am going to keep up the tomato juice in hopes that it works. We visit a lot of family and don't want them to have brown patches.
Thanks, Jody

That was my problem too, she had free choice of where she went until I put the fencing up. But then I think she felt like I was being mean by not letting her in the whole back yard. Once she realized that when she peed and pooped she could use the rest of the back yard. I don't know about the wood chips, maybe they feel funny to their feet. How large are they, is it like sawdust or are they big chips?

Oops sorry Jody I didn't answer your question. No it's just grass (I keep a can of baking soda solution right in the fenced in part for her piddles, it's just lush green grass.

I think I will try the Baking soda solution/no wood chips. I will also continue the t.juice. Thanks for the great advice.
