Ahhhh! Adorable. What breed is Bogey? He looks like a mix of boxer (ears), charpei (wrinkles), mastiff (head) and bulldog (body). How old is he?

He is an Olde English Bulldogge which is supposed to be a recreation of the original bulldog. Many people don't realize that the modern day bulldog (generally referred to as English bulldog) actually looked more like an American bulldog/pit bull during it's bullbaiting days (how it got the name bulldog). After bull baiting was outlawed, bulldog breeders started working on creating a bulldog as a show dog and that is how it ended up with the exaggerated features. The modern day bulldog is actually my favorite breed (there's just something about those sourmugs that I adore :) ), but I decided to get the Olde English Bulldogge because in general they can have fewer health problems, plus I wanted a dog that is more athletic than the typical English Bulldog. Anyway, breeders developed the Olde English about 30 years ago by crossing English Bulldog, American Bulldog, Bullmastiff, and Pit Bull. Ok that was probably way more info than you wanted....so I'll stop now. :)

Hee Yung, that's so interesting, I didn't know that! I was wondering about Bogarts breed cos I thought that in his really young pics he looks like an English Bulldog, but then in some of his more recent pics he looks more like a Boxer and I was a little confused that you referred to him as a Bulldog, not a Boxer. Anyway, he is a gorgeous dog! xoxox

I found your history lesson to be very imformative. Thanks for sharing. I also love the look of the bulldog (I didn't know there were so many varieties, but always liked the English Bulldog. I would not get one because of the health problems and cost. And I also wanted an athletic dog.

My cousin breeds French Bulldogs. They are very funny little dogs but do quite a bit of snorting and other breathing related noises. They snore louder than my old college roomate (and that was pretty loud).
