View Full Version : I Think My Dog's Blood Test Was Screwed Up!!!!

This vet pressured me into a full geriatric blood panel before doing a dental cleaning on my healthy 3 year old chihuahua. Okay, I was stupid for letting her or for having her do a full panel.

Then I get it to take home since I don't want to use this what's called the Small Animal Hospital in Federal Way, WA, and it says on the test that for the Gamma ft, the sample was hemolyzed which I read means someone screwed it up for part of the test. It cost me $104. plus then later they told me there was an extra $9 to label it and send it out. Then I go in to pay it and get the paperwork for a new vet, and they want an exam fee which they never mentioned was part of the dental work and necessary and something that was not included in their pricing of dental work. I've been sooooo taken.

THEN, I was so worried because I thought they would do the dental work then, that I let the vet take my dog from me to get blood. When a vet takes a dog, it means that something ugly may happen you don't want to see.

THEN, the blood work says they cannot get an accurate platlet count due to clumping. The lab refused to explain it to me and the vet remained unavailable for the rest of the day (until they cashed my check).

Does anyone have any input on this? Was this a major screw up by the lab and/or vet. Should I sue for not having total results even if the gamma and platlets will not make a difference in her anesthesia and how she will react to it?

A thousand thank yous,

Grace & Little Capri

I would call your local Humane Society and ask to speak to the vet. Tell them your story and see what they think. A second, professional, opinion is probably the best idea in this situation.

Hi Colleen, sometimes when you are in the middle of a problem, you can not see the way out, because you are too confused, and to concerned about your dog to think coherently. I will contact my humane society before I make any major decisions. You would think a simple dental cleaning is as it is, but some vets muddy the waters with unneeded tests and who knows what else.

I am not saying to not believe in your vet if you have a good one. I just don't understand that I think the beginnings in wanting to become a vet for the purpose of helping pets becomes over shadowed by making money on unneeded procedures. I know they must pay a lot for schooling, but how did they make a left turn into billing like lawyers? How can you start out with good intentions and turn to a billing force with no regard to clients and if they have he money to make the payents. But of course they offer an option, and hat is that they will bill you and you have to make credit payments to them, in other words, take out a credit card through their company where they will bill you and charge interest. I can understand if if you are desparate to save your pet and there are big bills, but the vets make your bills big on purpose, and that's where I drawn the line.

Well, all I can say is document, document, document! Just in case it does go to court, document every phone call, every single thing you can think of to write down about the situation. It could come in handy. Okay, thats all I have to say(lol), hope the pup is ok. ~Lauren

i think that u might want to change vets, go to one recommended by someone who has a pet and that they have used over time, as a good vet will explain everything to you off their own back. i'm lucky to have one of these good vets and they always explain everything in simple terms that u don't have to be a vet to understand.
