well well, i have a whole different kind of puppy here compared to my chloe sasha. bailey is doing EVERYTHING a puppy does which is something chloe didn't put me through. she is like the perfect furbaby. she barely had any accidents in the house during housetraining and NEVER ruined anything. but bailey on the otherhand has had quite a few accidents (i had to remove my center rug from my living room) and he is a BIG chewer. he has over 30 toys to play with and chew, which he does play with, but still finds the wood on my tables quite yummy i guess. i use bitter spray on everything he likes to get his teeth into and take him out about every 2 hrs and he still has an accident a day in the house. what else can i do? help me.

chloe spoiled me with her perfection! so i'm a bit traumatized over here. i adore bailey though, he gives me that look with a little bit of the tongue sticking out (something chloe never does) and i melt completely.

Jesse-

That is so funny, exactly how I felt a few weeks after we brought home our second dog Teddy, wow is there anything this dog can't destroy? Luckily he was housetrained so I didn't have that to deal with (he has never had an accident in the house, knock on wood ;) ) So, I'm afraid I'm not much help with housetraining, but with chewing, the only suggestion I would make, are you sure Bailey doesn't like the taste of your bitter spray, whatever type it might be? The first kind I bought (I think it was called Chew Stop), I later found out was actually encouraging Teddy to chew on the doused items (he loved the taste!). You can find out if Bailey enjoys the taste by spray a little bit on your finger and letting him lick it; if he shakes his head in disgust, he probably doesn't like it. If he keeps licking and searching for more, you might want to try a different flavor. I used to not be able to leave Teddy in a room alone for 5 minutes without coming back to something destroyed (rug, shoe, piece of paper, etc...), but he is so much better now. So there is hope! Good luck :star:

Maybe you can take Bailey out every hour instead of two hours. I know what you mean by a big chewer. Blackie has only had one toy that cannot be completly destroyed. You have to resist puppy eyes when it comes to buisness though. Good luck.

Finnegan also liked the taste of the "bitter" don't chew sprays. It was suggested by my neighbor to try Binaca breath spray or drops. For some reason, dogs don't seem to like it. But you have to get the regular flavor. Finnegan liked the cinnamon!!

thanks for all the advice. i will have to check tonight how much bailey enjoys this bitter apple spray. as for the pooping well we are trying to take him out every hour when we are home and not let him wander out of our site. we watch him carefully when he starts sniffing and call his attention asking him if he has to go potty. we noticed that when he has to go he does a little dance, sort of a jig. its sooo funny :rolling: he actually lifts one of his back legs and does a jg dance back and forth and that's usually our que. but if he wanders off to the kitchen (usually when i'm not home and its just my husband, go figure) then he'll have an accident. we're trying and quite honestly he's not doing too bad. he doesn't have any accidents in his crate and i crate him at night as well as when i go to work. so he knows that its a no-no in the crate. i'll keep you guys updated.

Jesse,

So nice to hear that Bailey is doing so well, considering the short time ( two weeks ) he's been with you. My Giotto does a similar dance when he needs to do his business. They are all so unique and yet so lovable!! How much does Bailey weighs?

I learned about a spray from a trainer I spoke with called Fooey! Training Aid and apparently bitter apple doesn't hold a candle to this stuff. She's had more success with it than any other type of spray and apparently has never met a dog that likes it.

Hi Maria, about 2 weeks ago he weighed 7.5 lbs but i'm sure by now he's about 8 or so. We have an appt for the vet next week. He's doing wonderful and very very different from chloe in every aspect. Its quite funny.

Thanks for the product info Rebekah. I'm going to look into it. I am freaking out with Bailey trying to chew the ends of my tables.

Oh my gosh Jesse! Bailey sounds just like Cassie! She has about one accident a day in the house- usually after I get home from work and am trying to cook dinner and do homework with the kids.. Sometimes I lose track of time and she wanders off and has an accident! She is getting better about going to the door or looking at me and barking to let me know she needs to go out but like you said- its tough!! Its like having another infant in the house.. She also has more toys it seems than my children (she even has her own toy box) and she plays with them but loves to CHEW the wood on my end tables and in my bathroom (we have the double sinks) in the mornings when I am getting ready for work.. I have to admit I wouldnt know what to do without her but at times I dont know what to do WITH her! I'm feeling your pain girl! Keep up the good work with those 2.. they are gorgeous and obviously happy...

hi amy, thanks for the compliment, my babies are truly spoiled and loved to pieces.

Cassie is soooo adorable! i love that picture!!! she looks like a shih tzu, is she?

so Cassie and Bailey are very much alike i see! yesterday he showed a big improvement, he actually went to the door and waited for me, as soon as i took his que and went out he did his business very quickly. i think its hitting him now, he hasn't had an accident in the house in about 2x days. so that's very good.
