Yesterday my ex-husband had our chocolate lab Taz put down; she would have been 12 this coming Monday. Something had happened a couple of weeks ago, and she wasn't doing well. He took her to the vet, hoping it was just an inner ear infection, but the vet felt it was something neurological - that she either had had a stroke or that she had a brain tumor. The vet put her on antibiotics and steroids and she improved slightly, but then on the weekend she took another turn for the worst and couldn't even stand up anymore. My ex said that on Sunday when she was trying to get up and couldn't, that she looked at him as if to say 'please do something to help me' and he knew that it was time to let her go. I said good-bye to her on the phone (I am in a different province now) and he said she wagged her tail. Here is a picture of Taz and her little buddy Olga when I babysat them last year. I hope Olga understands, as much as dogs can, where her friend went, and that Taz is no longer suffering.

Sheryl I am so sorry to hear about Taz, but i understand i had to do something similar to a red dobbie that my ex and I had and it broke my heart.

you are in my thoughts and prayers and know that she will be waiting for you to join her

OH MY! That is so hard! I'm sorry to hear about Taz. I agree that she is in a better place now. I could only imagine how scared and uncomfortable she must have been going through those neurological issues. I'm glad you at least got to talk to her before she passed on.

I'm so sorry about your loss; Taz was a beautiful furbaby.

Thanks for the kind words. I will miss her, and am so thankful that she was part of my life - it is because of Taz that I am a 'dog person'!
