There was an interesting article in Long Island's Newsday on January 13--actually in their "Life" magazine. It was written by author Frank McCourt about a beagle, Rory, he and his wife adopted two years ago from a shelter in Pennsylvania. Rory was about three when they adopted him. My husband called this to my attention because the idea of adopting Rory came from Mrs. McCourt, and he was resisting--the same as my husband and I when we adopted Linus. I enjoyed reading that Rory definitely has his issues--joggers running past, he lunges, and big dogs also set him off. Yet Rory is accepted for who he is and loved by the McCourts, and obviously in a great home. I could not get a link to this article, whcih will sometimes happen if it is written by an outside author. It is an enjoyable story, and I scanned it and saved it on my computer in PDF format.

IReminds me of the thread I started asking if anybody had read a book yet called Marley and Me. It's about a couple who get a Labrador Retriever puppy, not a pound puppy. He has issues, although not aggressive issues. Mainly destructive, hyperactive, etc. He also is loved by this family for who he is, which is a very loving and devoted family dog.....just a poorly behaved one!
Very heartwarming story for someone who also has a good-hearted dog (from the pound) and has worked on obedience quite a bit, but he's always been a very active handful. He's just overly exuberant, quite like Marley!
Sounds like the article about Rory would be the same kind of upbeat story. It is nice to read about someone who's having similar issues as you with your pet. Especially when their dogs, imperfections and all, have become important members of the family just like ours.
