View Full Version : Is Tea Tree like catnip for dogs?

I have had my 10-month old standard poodle for about 2 months. I have not yet gotten him groomed but I have bathed him three times. The first time I used my shampoo. He didn't particularly like it but stood still and I noticed no particular difference in his behavior afterward.

These last two times - just a week apart I used Sargeants Medicated Shampoo with Tea Tree Oil and salicytic acid. He seemed to like the bath somewhat more, but after the bath he seems downright giddy both times. He runs in the house and pounces and plays. It takes hours before he actually lies down and pretends he's a rug. Normally, if I'm not actively playing with him, he lies around.

What's going on? Is it the Tea Tree?

I'm not completely positive about this but i'm sure it has the same effect it does on us. Have you ever tried a shampoo with tea tree? It makes your scalp tingle and feel really cold. I bet it feels the same on a dogs skin. I bet this is why he is acting crazy after a bath...his skin is tingling.

Just an idea...hope this helps

That makes sense.

Thank you,
