We have both dogs and cats, and they get along extremely well! I have a small cattery, breeding a couple of litters per year, so the kittens grow up together with the dogs, who, in their turn, love to play and interact with the kittens. 2 of our dogs were born in a household where there were no cats, but still, they accept them like their own. My 3rd doggy was born here, so she grew up with the cats and kittens from the start. It's fun to see that both the dogs and cats understand each others language, and take over each others behavior. Magick, our doggy who was born here, shows most cat-like behavior, like laying on the catfurniture, walking on the table (when she gets the chance!), and jumping on the kitchencounter (...)

Those are great pictures. I can't wait til the day that my cats learn to tolerate my puppy. He (the puppy) is getting less and less hyper and also much easier to distract when they're in his sight. In fact, sometimes he actually ignores them. They, in turn, are also getting more at ease. We're still not there. We still have the house gated into 2 areas, and the cats don't very often come into the 'dog' area, but I've seen so much improvement, so I feel very confident that it will come about....just not nearly as soon as I had hoped. My first cat-puppy introduction was worked out in a matter of minutes. The cat explained to the puppy how it would be, and the puppy understood. There was never another problem. The cat never let the dog become friends with him, but there was never any fighting, and they were always together in the same room, on the same sofa, etc. That same dog was still around when these 2 cats came into our household. Once again, no problems at all. The dog was pretty old and had no interest in chasing cats. One of these cats slept with him. Now, that dog has gone on, but we have a puppy 9 mos. old. This puppy is hyper and persistent, but he's learning.

Catherine, that is a great pic. I have to send this page to my sister who has cats. She won't believe this picture.

My Chihuahua likes cats naturally for some reason. One followed us and walked right next to her on one of our walks. The cat followed us home and now visits our backyard on occasion to visit with Capri. It's a riot!

What kind of dog is that in the 2nd pic?

Catherine, great pics. It's so nice when dogs and cats get along. I would like to add a picture (I had this on DD). I have had a very rough time of getting my animals to not bother each other. The dog will constantly chase the cat and plays rather rought with him. So we decided to eliminate the behavior of dog-chases-cat. We have made great strides but still have the occasional mishap.

Anyway, our animals HAVE to be in the bathroom while someone showers. This particular morning, they both fell asleep. How funny is this?

I also had put the photo on DD, but am trying to post it again here. Not sure if it's working. Anyway, we're still working on our dog/cats relationship. We are making strides, but it's not there yet. We're still a house divided. I haven't decided to take the gates down because I don't think it's to the point that the cats could enjoy a fairly stress-free environment. We're getting there, though!

My big guy Harley is 115 pounds, and is actually afraid of Mr. Pud E. Cat, who weighs 100 pounds less than he does! Pud has never swiped Harley, just hissed at him and took a swing or two. But that was enough, and Harley now avoids him for the most part. Maybe some day they will 'cuddle up' together and I'll be able to get a picture of them both together.
