You have a kiddie wading pool in the yard, but no small children.

You have baby gates permanently installed at strategic places around the house, but no babies.

The trash basket is more or less permanently installed in the kitchen sink, to keep the dog out of it while you're at work.

You can't see out the passenger side of the windshield because there are nose-prints all over the inside.

Poop has become a source of conversation for you and your significant other.

You refer to yourselves as Mommy and Daddy.

Your dog sleeps with you.

You have 32 different names for your dog. Most make no sense, but she understands.

Your dog eats cat poop, but you still let her kiss you (but not immediately afterward, of course).

You like people who like your dog. You despise people who don't.

You carry dog biscuits in your purse or pocket at all times.

You talk about your dog the way other people talk about their kid.

You sign and send birthday/anniversary/Christmas cards from your dog.

You put an extra blanket on the bed so your dog can be comfortable.

You'd rather stay home on Saturday night and cuddle your dog than go to the movies with your sweetie.

You go to the pet supply store every Saturday because it's one of the very few places that lets you bring your dog inside, and your dog loves to go with you.

You open your purse, and that big bunch of baggies you use for pick-ups pops out.

You get an extra-long hose on your shower-massage just so you can use it to wash your dog in the tub, without making the dog sit hip-deep in water.

You don't think it's the least bit strange to stand in the back yard yelling, "Emily, pee!" over and over again, while Emily tends to play and forget what she's out there for (but what your neighbors think of your behavior is yet another story).

You and the dog come down with something like flu on the same day. Your dog sees the vet while you settle for an over-the-counter remedy from the drugstore.

Your dog is getting old and arthritic, so you go buy lumber and build her a small staircase so she can climb onto the bed by herself.

Your license plate or license plate frame mentions your dog.

this might have already been posted but i thought it worth posting again...Luci

That is too cute! I was laughing at how many of those things I do and are so appropriate to dog owners. Thanks for sharing that, Luciann!

Those are sooo true! I only made one side of the bed this morning since Missy was still tired and laying on the other side. I didn't want to disrupt her by making the bed!

...I was wondering if any of you have made up a cute little "voice" for your dog? I mean, do you talk in a different voice sometimes and pretend it is the dog talking?
Please tell me I am not the only one who does this--I may become worried...

Oh, man, I'd surely be committed to the psych ward if people heard the voice I use to talk to Sailor! (It was the same with the dogs that my husband kept when we split up.)

Do any of you listen to Bob and Tom morning radio show?? They all laugh about how they all use their dog voices. I too am guilty of it. I also say excuse me, please, thank you, and Sorry when talking to "the boys" as we refer to them. I feel my self sinking deaper and deaper into this dog universe. They really are the owners! :)

Thank god I'm not the only one! I talk to them like they totally understand every word I'm saying... including excuse me, thank you, etc. and my husband and I do have "doggie" voices we use that are so not what I'd use when talking to my neighbors! Heck, I don't even use that voice when I talk to kids! ... "oh, you're such a good boy" in that high-pitched annoying voice!

Well i have to admit that i have my doggie voice and i to talk to them as though they were human. I also make up conversations for them for certain actions......like when they are bouncing at the door needing to go it is like "mom, come on I GOT TO GO"

I'll admit I don't use a doggie voice to speak for them. I'm starting to feel like I'm in the minority ;).

I do however talk to them like they understand every word I say. I also will respond to them as if they are talking to me. Like Sparky will have her "chat" sounds and I'll respond like she's telling me what has been going on all day with her and Skye. It's very cute. The more I respond, the more sounds, body squirms, and wiggles she makes. Skye doesn't respond much to my talking other than just beg for more physical attention, but I do continue to talk to her like she too understands me (i.e. excuse me, thank you, whatcha doing?, etc...)

My doggie voice is not much different than what i use with babies, i do talk to them all the time like the know exactly what i am saying, and though they don't walk to me really to me vocally they will talk back with body language...and they will also give their opinion if i ask...lol

yeah, guilty of almost every one of those(especially liking people who like your dog and despising those that don't) AND my mom and dad refer to themselves as grandma and grandpa!
It's good to know that I am not alone in my doggie universe!

Guilty as charged. My mom too calls and inquires about her "grand-dogs". And wants to know why she hasn't gotten any new pictures lately. And I have been talking to my girls like they have a full grasp of the English language since they were puppies. It wouldn't phase me in the least if they actually did answer back. ;) We all need to be a little crazy sometimes...
