Hello all - and thank you phpbb...? for hosting this. This is Julie and magoo from doggie door (magoo - the un-housebreakable pit rescue!)
Last night (st paddy's) - the luck o the irish hit us. An approximately 4 yr old doberman/shepherd mix followed my little sis home from the "pub" to make sure she wasn't mugged - now it's our turn to do right - I've contacted EVERYONE and EVERY organization I can to reunite this little guy with his (HOPE HOPE HOPE) family - (although I bet he was just pitched out on the street with all that green beer :( )
Anyway - in the mean-time, between finding his former or his forever home - how do I introduce the king of the roost to a boarder? Right now the stray (I can't name him or I'll keep him, and I can't afford to keep him) is on our enclosed porch in a borrowed doggie jacket with food and water and he's just the SWEETEST and CALMEST!!!!!! The problem is, my dog isn't the calmest - he's really rambunctious. I tried introducing them this morning - outside - my sis with the stray and I with Magoo - it was good for about 10 minutes - then Magoo (who also has recent stitches that are already tearing apart-and isn't supposed to have doggie contact) wants to wrestle. The stray is too freaked out for this AND - UN-NEUTERED - nothing bad happened this morning, but I'm afraid on my own to let them see each other right now...both my sis and I will be home tonight - what can we do to introduce the two of them in a proper way? I want the stray to at least be in the warmth of the apartment while we can supervise...
Any help would be, well, helpful!
Thanks!

It's hard to tell. Magoo keeps licking the dog and growling and generally being a pain to the stray... I think if the stray would play with Magoo it would all be fine, but the stray wants nothing to do with it. No luck with the posters (trying to find the owner) so, i guess the next thing to do is to get him fixed and innoculated and then try and find him a home...

Hi Julie~

It's so sweet of you to take in this stray. Have you contacted any area shelters or rescue groups? To let them know you found this dog- his old owners might be checking in with shelters. A shelter or rescue org. might be able to take care of his operation & other vet needs, or at least do it at a discounted price.

A good place to start is probably the anti cruelty society

Melissa,
First thing I did (after bathing him -boy was he stinky!) was take his pic and post in the area we found him that we'd found him - also put up pics at the ACC - where people in Chicago would go if they lost a pet... AND called all the local vets (in the area we found him) No luck! I'm trying now to become part of a foster program with some of the local shelters (including Anti-Cruelty) hopefully they'll cover the vet costs and more importantly advertise to the right crowd! I've posted to everyone I know that I've got a dog for a good home, and on pet-finders... Also posted found dog on any site I could find where people might look... It's too bad they don't get along famously (and that I don't have the time to make this happen - still working on training magoo - my other homeless guy!) But thanks for telling me I'm sweet - a 2 dog household can really test your nerves!
Cross your fingers for him - he's really sweet and deserves a home where he can get more attention - not just the basics! (although I can't help myself, he's learning to sit right now - a tough task with Magoo whining in the background!)
