We have a very frinedly and gentle male collie. We are going through a rescue to get a second collie. We are going to see one of the dogs this weekend for our first visit. Knowing that we are going to get a second collie, I am trying to prepare the house for the addition.

I purchased a second dog dish because I am not sure if we will need that or not. Our current collie eats a little throughout the day and basically self administers his food. He doesn't over eat. We carefully measure the food for his size and weight and he eats what he is supposed to over the given time period. We just make sure that the dish is never empty. At least a couple times during the week, we completely empty the dish, wash it out and refill it with all new food. The dog that we are seeing this weekend shares a dish with the other dog on site. That collie feeds the same way that our collie feeds.

Basically both dogs have sound like they have the same temperment and everything. I am really excited to go and see this collie because I feel it will be a good match.

Our collie is 4 yrs old and this other collie is 3.5 yrs old.

My questions to you all is about the sleeping arrangements. I am quite tossed up about what to do. We have a dog bed for our collie. We do not crate our collie. he has the run of the house. Sometimes he uses his bed and sometimes he just uses a piece of the floor. He changes his mind where he wants to lie down and rest. At night he is aways in his bed however.

When bringing the second collie in the house, will these two dogs want to sleep together or separate. If they want to sleep together, I will need to purchase one X-large bed. If they want to sleep sepaarate then I will need to just buy an additional bed. Since they will be of the opposite sex and they are both fixed, what should I expect???? :?:

I know the the other collie is used to being the alpha dog in that house because she was the smarter of the two dogs. The owner has what they call a mut that is really dumb. Our dog loves to be around other dogs. He is always sniffing at other dogs. He has never had the opportunity to actually play with other dogs. He was also fixed at a very young age. He was fixed at 6 months old and thus he squats to pee. He never marks his territory or anything. He just has never been exposed to that sort of thing.

What do you think :?: :?:

I think you should get a seperate bed in case they do decide not to sleep together. You can never know until you actually get them. I think its great that they eat the same way, but as for her being the alpha you will have to let them decide the pecking order.
