At DoggieDoor Originally....This forum was not designed for answering Training questions from a "How do I teach my dog to sit, or How do I stop my dog from running away."

It was designed to be an open forum for discussing training Methods. How to train from a mentality point of view. +R (positive reinforcement, Aversive, Negatives) Basic Training Mentality was the Topic. Why does something work, how does it work, what are the benefits to using one over the other...in other words...it was a Head Case Discussion.

While I don't know if the current admin wants to keep this sort of tone or not, I think it can have some valid merit. Discussing the mental aspects of the trainer can improve training mentality!

Many individuals wrongly accuse their dog of being STUBBORN...when in fact, most animals, dogs included, LACK the mental agility to BE stubborn. Unfortunately, when humans harbor this idea it can become an open door to being less than +R in training, because we humans then JUSTIFY our anger, and frustrations.

Dogs never justify, they don't DO "paybacks" because they are not able to rationalize, to comprehend these sorts of "higher thoughts." They don't want to be "naughty" or cause us to be upset, they have no "point to prove," or hidden agendas!

Animals simply act and react in the moment they are IN, based upon their level of training...what they understand, what they've learned to RELY on in training, (or lack thereof!) Distractions, Fears, Excitements, Hunger, Thirst, Comforts or lack of, and Pain or anticipation of SOMETHING...good or bad. These are what motivate animals to DO what they do. Some of these things are learned by the animal, and some are instinctive.

This may be why you've not received a direct answer to your question about your run away dog. You may be better served by posting it in either the Puppies or Obedience Forums. Many folks don't always visit THIS forum as it is more of a mental clearing house for training methodology.
