View Full Version : Do you trip over dog toys all day long?

I have noticed a common item in all of the pictures posted around this and the former DD site...DOG TOYS. Might it be a ball, rope, kong or stuffed animal, there is one in almost every picture posted. I know the same thing goes at my house. We have a toy laying in every room of the house allowing the dog to pick something up to play with while following us around.
When Bailey was younger, we used his crate as the toy box. Every time he went in the crate, we would go around the house and pick up EVERY toy to go into the crate with him. Then, in the morning, he would spend the first 10 minutes of freedom strategically placing one toy in every room (or just scattering them everywhere). It was actually comical to watch him come into the living room with his rope, drop it at my feet and immediately turn to go back for another one. He would continue this until every toy was out of his cage and laying somewhere more convenient. We have since given up on the toy box idea and just leave them everywhere. I guess that’s just one of the many sacrifices we make as pet owners!
:D

The bad thing about my dog's toys is that she likes to bury them in the backyard or just leave them there in the mud... so when you come into the house you usually tripped with a disgusting nasty muddy thing you don't even know what it is!!! :P So she has her indoor toys and her outdoor toys, she has a toy box inside her dog house outside were we keep the balls, ropes, frisbees and all those outdoor toys (of course, they don't remain the box for long). Now indoor toys are other story, we keep them inside her bed but she will do just the same thing Bailey does, if you put them all in you will see her taking one by one and returning them to their original places, its so funny because she does really a good job... Well, dogs right??? :P

Magic has her own toy box. I like the idea of putting them in her crate tho, she only plays with the ones on top... Maybe if she sees all of them at once she will play with all of them.

Bogart has so many toy and he's gone through a million in his 15 months. It's very expensive having an aggressive chewer! :) Most of his toys are scattered in the computer room. He's pretty good about keeping his toys in the one room, but sometimes he'll bring a nylabone or something in another room if we are in there.

You can't leave the lights out at night and expect not to step on dog toys in our house. I don't mind though as long as the one I step on are not covered with slober.

Misha has dozens of toys that I keep in a toy box but usually has a few favorites at different times that she leaves scattered from the living room to the kitchen.I've tried mixing up her toys and putting the most played with at the bottom and the ones that could/should be a novelty at the top,but she knows what she likes and will just nose through the toy box until she finds her favorites. At least she's careful picking out the ones she wants and doesn't pull the unwanteds out of the box.For some reason, she always wants her talking ball to be laying on the living room floor although she only plays with it occasionally.I'm constantly knocking into it -it makes a buzz then a little elfin voice goes "Oh no!"-so that little voice tends to punctuate my days at the moment...

Magic has a talking ball too! But my grand kids found the "egg" and started playing with it by putting their own messages on it, so I took it out of the ball. I'll put it back as soon as I remember where I hid it

Finnegan has lots of toys, too. His outside toys stay outside. I rotate his inside toy, because all of them won't fit in his toybox. I remember reading somewhere that they shouldn't have too many toys, especially if they are big chewers, as they seem to think that they can chew on anything then. So, we limit Finn's toys. He only has nylabones and his stuffed kongs in his crate.
Also, our breeder told us to have a toy in every room when he was small. That way, no matter what room he was in, there was a toy to play/chew on, not something else. That was fine when he was little, but now, I find them all in the hall, where he likes to lay.

Chloe Sasha has a toy bin in the kitchen with her bed. i usually scatter a few of her favorite toys in the morning before i leave for work. then in the evening when i get home i put them away until after she eats dinner. then after dinner she has a few all over the house and again before bed i put them away and then in the morning the routine begins again.

Spoiled little critters.

Oh yes - I have stubbed my toes a gazillion times on Ellie's bones. Being an aggressive chewer, all her toys are hard chew toys. When I stub my toes, esp. in the middle of the night, I secretly wish my girl could have soft, stuffed toys :D

I can tell you everyone in the house would have a lot to say about this subject. mutzzy has a field day moving her toys all about the house. AND BOY DOES SHE HAVE ENOUGH OF THEM! im addicted to buying her toys  Whenever i visit the pet store for food or other odds and ends I always manage to find myself strolling down the toy aisle. I think it is because Mutzzy genuinely appreciates each and every one of her toys She loves getting new ones and finding the old ones underneath the bed. I tried rotating them for a while and eventually i just threw them all in one of her baskets...well they kept adding up This is now what it looks like in her corner lol
