I posted this question in Dog Food, but I thought it might do better over here.

(Sam, if you get a chance to read this I have talked to you about Little Girl before. This is a new development, and I was just trying to get some opinions. I didn't want you to wonder why this case sounded familier.)

I have a question about what happens if a dog has a serious food allergy that goes undetected for a long time. Here is some back story (this is about my friends dog): Little Girl had some allergies to some outdoor blooming plants, she was given allergy medicine and for a few years it all went okay. Then she started getting really really sick. Her bloodwork showed red cell counts were horribly off and she was having seizures. She has been treated with steriods for almost a year. recently she stopped eating and vomited and had very runny diarreah, she is currently in the doggie hospital and she was eating some of the vets food and was on iv fluids. So, in effect without the dog food she was eating for 3 days. Her bloodwork is now completely normal and she seems to be getting better. I told my friend I think it was the food. I wanted to see what you all thought.
Talk to you soon.
Heather.

Hi Heather, sorry to hear about your little one in hospital and hope she gets better soon.
Is it it possible for your vets to run food allergy tests on her whilst she is there? this can be done through blood and will give you a better idea of what, if anything, she is allergic to. That way you can avoid the foods or if that is a big problem, you can use Nosodes to help prevent the reaction to the food. I wouldn't say that it is 100% food, if she is on other meds. along with her allergic reaction to the plants, it could just be that her system is totally congested and needs a good clean out and her future care needs looking at perhaps. I know these blood tests are not cheap for you, but if you have a gut instinct, go with it. I would say that doing regular detox and building up her Immune system are two things I would definitely suggest you seriously consider. Let us know how she gets on and e.mail me at home if you need anything further and if you can get a copy of her blood tests and fax or scan them to me I'd be glad to take a look for you, see what I can spot.
