A bed monster that is. Our pup wasn't feeling well a few weeks back, so my boyfriend decided that we should let him sleep in our bed with us. He's a 10 month old Ibizan Hound - and he's one big, leggy, lanky dog with no real sense of the fact that my boyfriend and I both need room to sleep as well. He's also gets up at least four times at night, and spins around and resettles himself, inevitably plopping right down on our legs or elsewhere.
Moral of the story, we want him out! We know it is going to be tough because when we go upstairs for bed, Izzie puts his front paws on the bed and cries until we bring him up.
He has a bed upstairs that he used to use and seemed to like. Of course, it is not as nice as sleeping between us, but he definitely liked it before.
We've got to transition him back to his bed...and thoughts on how to make it easier?
Thanks much!
Melissa (who is tired. very tired) and Izzie (who slept like a baby)

Hey Melissa, I know what you're going through! Do you crate Izzie during the day or could you crate him at night? If not, could you at least put his bed somewhere other than your room? If all else fails, you just might have to be firm about him not jumping up on the bed. Invest in some earplugs and don't give in to the crying. He'll see that its not working anymore and go back to his bed. It may take a few nights though!

He is crate trained. We crate him when we are gone two days a week (he goes to doggie day care the other three days), downstairs on the first floor. I know it may be silly, but we don't like to crate him at night...he seems happier sleeping on his bed.
I have a feeling we are just going to have deal with a crying ticked off pup beginning this weekend...we are starting on Friday night, as we both have have jobs that require us to get up early during the week. Ugh. It is going to be ugly! :?

Hey Melissa, same thing happened to us and our beagle... and beagle assumed that was HER bed and kicked us out every time she could  Anyway, after a lot of sleepless nights we decided it was enough and we started to kick her out of bed, from then on she wasn't allowed to jump into bed at ANY time, instead we put her bed besides ours and leave her toys around and gave her a treat any time she came in there by herself... anyway... after another lots of sleepless nights we managed to get her to sleep through the night in her own bed, now she's allowed to jump in and watch tv with us but as soon as she realizes we are getting ready to go to sleep she voluntarely jumps down and goes to sleep to her own bed... Hot weather is kicking in and it seems to helps too... :P
Its not an easy job and its very noisy too, but you'll get used to the whining... at the end, the results are worth it....
Good luck...
