Hello again,

It was suggested I go into this a little more, so here goes! Shazam, my year old Basset Hound HATES going for rides in the car/ truck. It doesn't matter if we're going to the beach for a run or just a quick ride to the market. He gets very agitated, can't sit still and cries incessantly. When we brought him home, there was a long car ride, almost 3 hours .. so perhaps there is a fear of separation. I have tried rolling the window down, but I get nervous about him jumping out of the car. Usually, my son and Shazam share the back seat so I ask my son to pet him and comfort him, this works for very short time. Any advice or ideas on how to make car rides easier for our boy (and his people!) is grealty appreciated.

Is he crated when you're driving?

I find that the best thing to do is act normal and ignore him. If you act scared and start saying, "oh, it's OK," and soothe him, he's going to think YOU'RE scared too, and that'll make him even more scared. Instead, say in a happy voice something like, "Wow! This is sooooo much fun!"
