My Capri is a 3-1/2 pound full grown chi which I'm sure I've mentioned 1,000 times, but since I haven't posted an avatar, I figure I have to say who I'm talking about.

Well anyway, I called Innova since I feed her the regular sized can of food which lasts 5-6 days. After 5 days I throw out any canned food I feed her. I called Innova and asked how long the Innova food lasts in the refrigerator after it's opened and I was surprised to hear them say only 3 days since the food is preserved naturally. I also called Natural Balance and they said the same thing.

For anyone who's food lasts longer than 3 days, because you have a small dog or you feed hard food w/canned so it lasts longer, you can maybe try freezing half the can once you open it. I did mention this to the person at NB and she said it may be mushy when it's defrosted, so your dog may not like it.

When I buy a can or two as a treat for the girls, I try to use it within a day or two. I've got large dogs, though, so it runs out pretty quickly.

Gaddy, I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but your dog holding the microphone is really strange looking, LMAO!!!!!:)

LOL, that's OK, I know, it is kind of silly, but actually....it's a hamster.

I just follow the health department rules for all leftovers, no more than three days or out it goes. That goes for dog food cat food any food more than three days old.

Hi,

I didn't know the health dept. set any rules for left overs. I don't eat meat but rarely, so I am never concerned about how long things hang around, and they usually don't last long with my big meat eating husband.

I know I've heard that food should not be left out more than 2 hours. They always say that on the news on holidays where food is left out, but I think the temperatue plays a factor in that too, especially with milk or cream products or with mayonnaise for sure.

I'll be camping with Capri for two nights one weekend, so I looked into buying the small cat food sized cans. Luckily the food she eats comes in small cans. She won't eat hard food so I can't bring that. A person can also try using freeze dried food if they were camping, but you would have to know in advance that the dog liked that food.

Bye, Grace

LOL, that'd be really cute. He's not mine, I found this little av on another board. I believe it's been passed around on the internet for a little while.
