Hi! I have a 4-year old male German Pinscher and 6 month old female mutt.

Both are fixed.

Recently the male has started humping the female repeatedly and excitedly. I know that humping sometimes is dominance related, but do not believe that is the situation in this case.

He acts as if he's sexually excited: panting and pacing back and forth and sniffing/licking her private areas.

I've seen him hump other dogs in dominance-related situations. He doesn't act this way in those cases.

Any thoughts? Is this a case of "spring fever?" Will they get over it? Or is she giving off hormones even though she's fixed, and this will pass once her "season" is over?

Thanks!

Hmmm that is a good question. i have a male unaltered as of yet and a fixed female and he just started doing the same to her. i thought it might be that he knows that this time last year he was breed and we are going to breed him once more before fixing him.

but that is a good question

Thanks! This sounds like a good question for your veterinarian. Usually humping in fixed dogs is related to dominance, anxiety relief, stress relief, and boredom. I'm stumped on this one.

Sorry!
