My dog isnt much of a barker, but when he does bark its a very full bark and quite piercing. When we were living in an apartment together if he heard someone (theyd have to be pretty loud btw) he would bark once or twice and thatd be the end of it. I have been visiting with my family now for the past two weeks and he will hear them in the kitchen or somewhere and bark. It almost seems like he forgets that they are there. It is especially bad in the mornings or in the middle of the night. How long will it take for him to get used to the idea of other people being around and making noise?

Some dogs will just bark when they hear something. Teaching the "quiet" command could help.

[NOTE - have treats handy!]

Sit down, and do something normal, that you usually do (read a book, watch TV, etc.) in the same room where the dog is. Have family members make noises in other rooms of the house. If the dog barks, say in a quiet and low voice, "Quiet!" and give him a treat. Repeat a few times more.
