Hey there everybody! I finally have a free minute to post my question!!
We just got a new puppy (10 weeks today) and she pees A LOT! For instance, this morning, she peed when I let her out of the crate, once about an hour later, and then another time before I left for work at 8:00. She peed three times during my boyfriend's lunch break.
The thing is, I know she's a puppy, and she's tiny, AND she drinks a lot of water (not abnormal amounts)!! So...I don't know if she just pees a lot cause she drinks a lot and has a small bladder right now, or if its a sign of something more serious. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Collen,
My Lina who is 6 months old and weighs 10lbs still pees frequently during the day... almost the same as when she was 10 weeks old. I read that puppies have tiny bladder and will pee more often. One thing to look for is if she needs to go alot during the night ( while she's crated ), I would then bring a urine sample to the vet's office to rule out an UTI. Lina can hold it for 7-8 hours at night which rules out an UTI ( thank goodness! ) So, I pay no attention when she pees a lot during the day.
I don't know if this helps.

Misty is being treated for a UTI. I noticed when we first got her she peed frequently. I would say, at least once every hour, but sometimes she would go 3x in an hour if she had been drinking water. When the UTI hit, it was hard to miss. She was peeing every 5-15 minutes and only a dribble was coming out. She also was not making it outside. I also heard her crying when she was trying to pee. It was not fun. After a few hours of this, her behavior was so differnt. She was visibly not feeling well and seemed very tired. I had her to the vet right away and it was definitely a UTI. Unfortunately after a week on antibiotics, the infection is still there. Now she is on a stronger medication, but I can tell she is still not quite herself.
If she normally pees this much every day then maybe there is no need to worry, yet if she is peeing more than usual, I would definitely take in a sample.

This happened to Bailey...He was a little older and I never determined if it was a UTI. I posted the question and was told to check the urine. Look for crystals or foul smell. I just gave him cranberry juice instead of water for 2 days. He loved it and it cured him right up. This is also recommended for people with frequent urination or UTI's.

I'd also like to add to Eric's advice. Use some finely chopped parsley in their food along with the cranberry juice.

If Capri is inside, she may look to go out to pee 3 or 4 x a day. If I'm on a walk with her, she may pee 2x-3X in a short period of time. So she pees more if she is out on a walk. I think a lot of dogs do that.
She did have a urinary tract infection once, but the way I could tell was she was going very often and not on her pad and she was trained to go on it, so I knew there was a problem and brought her urine into the vet and he said she had an infection, gave me meds, and it went away.
I would be cautious with Cranberry Juice, because if I'm not mistaken, it probably has a lot of sugar in it. I know for women, cranberry juice is good, but if you have an infection already, it will not cure it.

Oh she is definitely not urinating that much. And it doesn't seem like there is any urgency to her peeing. She is able to go to the door and then run around outside before deciding where to pee. The thing is, I don't know if she's peeing more than usual cause we've only had her a week and she's been pretty consistent.
I'm thinking its probably a small bladder, small puppy thing. She is able to go without pottying overnight, although she has pottied in the night. She has her own "room" right now so she can exit her crate to pee since she's not even at an age where she could hold her bladder for 7 hours. This morning, the puppy pads were clean and she pottied when we went outside.
I'll watch her to make sure I don't see any other signs of an infection and have our vet check her out at our next vaccination visit. Thanks!

You would need to catch up a urine sample for your Vet to run in order to rule out a UTI, for about $7.00 to $15.00 it's a bargain to me to KNOW that there's nothing physically causing it. Other than that, what you've discribed sounds perfectly normal for a puppy of this age!

My dog uses puppy pads, so when she had the UTI, I put down newspaper and as soon as she went, I poured it into a container. The vet said it would be okay to do that.
The vet had charged me an exam fee when I brought her in, so he didn't charge me a testing fee when I just brought in the sample, but I did have to pay a lot for the medicine, so he could have built the testing price into that.

Maybe its because she is in a new place and may still be a little nervous. We just had puppies over yesterday, two of them and they went pee 7 times in 2 hours, and that was just inside. They are coming over next week, we might adopt them so I am saving up all my newspappers. Good luck
