Hi,

Michelle just posted about her dog throwing up a big piece of a greenie. I have seen on other forums that they can choke and kill your dog. On their site, they do say to monitor your dog so they don't gulp them, but they don't say what to do if your dog is choking on one. I think they are some what irresponsible for not warning about that specifically.

To say to monitor your dog does not seem like enough of a warning, but of course they don't want to say your dog can choke on them. They make it seem like they may just eat a bigger chuck than they should, but don't mention the ramifications.

If you still want to give your dog greenies which are supposed to cut down on a dog's tartar build up, then don't leave them alone with it. For me, I don't even want to risk my dog getting it lodged in her throat. You really can't tell they are eating a big chunk until after they do it.

Bye, Grace

Yea I had to stop giving my two chi's greenies because they would eat them up in no time, and they did actually throw them up the few times I gave it to them. It scared me becuase I didnt know that it would cause them to do that, and they usually dont throw up.

It's the same way with rawhides, though. They warn that there is a choking hazard and that you should supervise your dog, but they do not tell what to do if your dog starts to choke. I'm not all that upset that they didn't put it on the bag. I just asked my vet what to do.

Well i still give my babies greenies and rawhide. they both seem to chew their greenies up well and i have not had a problem with them chocking on them or rawhide. But i can see that any chew treat would be a choking hazard if not monitored. I have not asked what to do if they choke on something, i figure do them like an infant...

With rawhides, they should be taken away when they get too small and can be swallowed. The thing with greenies is that they are pretty small to start with and are meant to be chewed to the end which may end up with a chunk being swallowed besides them being able to come apart in chunks while eating them. These are just my thoughts.

Yeah, I give Sally and Precious both also. They love both and the greenies help with their breath! :bunny: I will take them away at night when we go to sleep, but other than that I let them have them around the house. They pretty much stay right by my side at all times anyway, so it's pretty easy to supervise them.

Greenies are like doggie heroin for my two! I heard they were really bad for your dog - think back in doggiedoor.com - so stopped buying them. Rawhide chews are so disgusting and loaded with chemicals, not to mention the dangers posed with intestinal blockage, they don't make it into my shopping cart. My poor, deprived babies get nothing but Kongs and occasional raw bones, and always only under supervision.
