My dog has out grown the crate that I bought for him. My friend's dog has also outgrown her crate. She is a much bigger dog than mine and my friend asked if I wanted their old crate since it is bigger than the one I have.
Is it okay to use a "used" crate? Would my dog have any aversion or reaction to using a crate that another dog has been using regularly for the past 2 years? I wonder if the dog can smell or taste the previous dog and if that would make him not feel like it is his new home.

We had a dog house that uor other dog lived in but passed away. The dog that we got in August, Blackie, would not go into the dog house. I guess you can try to get your dog to go in. Maybe you can clean the crate with something that would get the other dog smell out.

I'd say give it a try. What have you got to lose. Just scrub down the crate and then spray it with a 10% bleach and water solution and let it air dry before you introduce it to your pup.

By all means RECYCLE! SAVE MONEY! As suggested, wash it with a bleach solution, then let it dry in the sun. You can then finish with a wipe down of Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle to be sure the bleach smell is totally out as well.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the receommendations. Crates are so expensive it sure would help to save a few bucks by getting this used one!!
