I rescued a 12-month old mixed female 4 months ago. I already have a 6-year old mixed male. Like some other "threads" I have read, they get together most of the time. The rescue is displaying some redirective aggression on the older dog when she sees another dog outside. Other than that, there has only been a couple of toy issues. They play well together and display affection toward one another. Does anyone have any answers towards handling this redirective aggression. She has not hurt my other dog, only pinned him down but I don't want it to get any further.
Thanks,
Susie

Hi Susie!
>>The rescue is displaying some redirective aggression on the older dog when she sees another dog outside.<<
If this seems to be the trigger, I would highly recommend that you prevent the dog from being able to see other dogs from your windows or doors. Everytime the new dog gets to practice that behavior, it becomes more of a habitual response. It will only get stronger with time! Anytime you want to stop an inappropriate behavior, you need to (1) avoid the trigger, and (2) prevent the behavior from ever occurring again.
Put both dogs on the Nothing in Life is Free program ASAP. Let your new dog know that you're in complete control of everything. This will help keep him calmer. Part of being in charge is keeping the dog(s) out of harm's way. When your rescued dog looks out of the window and re-directs, it's because seeing other dogs out there is NOT making him a happy camper.
Hope this helps!
