I have a five month old yorkie (Lilly) and a five year old yorkie (Daisy). My problem is my little puppy keeps trying to bury her food and treats on furniture. It is actually quite funny to watch - she puts the little treat down and then takes her nose and nudges the furniture to try and cover it up. Then she gets frustrated and starts to cry - or she will carry a treat or food in her mouth and walk around crying because she wants to bury it. I usually have to take the item away from her to avoid the stress! I like to give my babies greenies in the morning to keep them occupied while I have my coffee, but Lilly makes herself crazy with this habit. Daisy does not do this, she just takes her greenie and enjoys a good chew! Lilly does not do this with her food all of the time, mostly with her greenies. Any suggestions???? Anyone else have this experience????

Hi Lynda~
Why not let Lilly entertain herself by putting her treats in a buster cube or treat ball? Here are some ideas http://www.sitstay.com/store/toys/toysa.shtml#TYP56

Maggie has always hidden things in the furniture...now its mostly just if its something new that she hasnt had, or something that she really loves. She will hide the same thing like five times in an hour until she finds just the right spot. She has even tried to hide up next to a wall with nothing to cover it!!!!!! This doesnt help you with your problem.....Im bad I just let her do it!

my female chi will do the same thing alot of the time.. when she walks around with it in her mouth and whines cause she wants to hide it i just tell her to eat it (if it is a treat) and ususally she does. My two chis have access to the outdoors during the day so a lot of the time she will go bury it, usually in one of my flower pots.
Not sure that this is a good thing that i let her do it but she will go back later and get the treat as well...
when she has tried to hide it in the furniture i just tell her no and she will sit there and eat what ever it is.

Nalu will often hide his treats in the furniture or throughout the house. Prior to hiding, he does the whining thing too. He carries it around in his mouth, whining softly while searching for the perfect place to hide it. Often he "hides" it right in the open - just putting it on the rug or the couch and then he will lay next to it. I always act like I can't see what he has hidden and he seems relieved. If I act like I see it, he will need to find another "hiding" spot.
Not sure what this is about or why he is doing it. Sometimes he seems stressed out too when he is whining and carrying it around. He will even breathe heavy but I think it is just from excitement. I don't take it away from him. I just let him do what he wants (eat it, hide it, or carry it around and whine).

Tika will do that too, hiding it out in the open. it is funny when she tries to hide it in a blanket or anything since she lays it down and tries to move this thing with her nose..sometimes i take pity on her and cover it for her and then she is happy..

Lola does the same thing. It's so funny!! She only does it with greenies. She likes to hide it in my bed or in the couch. She'll dig frantically at my blankets and then try to bury it with her nose. I just let her do it. She has figured out that if she pulls the blankets out she can cover it up better. Sometimes she'll bury it and then 5 minutes later she'll go back and eat it. If you don't mind her doing it you could get a blanket for her to bury it in a corner or somewhere out of the way.

Yeah, Sam loves to hide his rawhides! Attempting to dig in the carpet must be frustrating! He's so excited when he finds one later--it amazes me he remembers where he's hidden them. When I find one and pick it up, it runs and hides it somewhere else!
The treats in the furniture remind me of an old Roseanne joke -- Husband asks "Honey, do we have any chips?" Roseanne--" I don't know, did you look under the cushions?"

Capri used to hide these treats she did not like as much in laundry or in my lap if I was laying on the couch with a blanket on me. She does the nose pushing thing to hide her treat also. My husband always says she is going to wear her nose out:)
