I have a 2 year old female golden retriever who recently developed a fear of our fenced in backyard. A few weeks ago, a huge kite became stuck in our neighbors extremely tall tree--there is no getting it out. I have noticed that when the wind blows hard, the kite makes a flapping noise and causes my dog to look up at it, as she cowers to the back door. It doesn't matter if I am inside at the time or outside with her, but she immediately wants to go inside. It has become a real problem! She never wants to stay outside anymore but she wants to go outside. She will wine at the backdoor to go out, but once I open the door, she backs up and I have to almost make her go outside! It has made her miserable, too. She often wines around the house and really wants to go outside to bark with other neighborhood dogs, but she is terrified to. If she gets scared enough, she will starts clawing at out back door! The kite is the only reason that I can think of that she is all of a sudden afraid of our backyard. I have tried going outside to play with her (that works for a little while, but when I go inside, then she does, too) and I have tried leaving her out there to face her fear. Nothing works. Help!
